It is important to note here that there are no books available regarding the Bombay Presidency. Not all of these books in the list below are related to the mutiny. Those which are are marked with this:📗

The Karbistan Archives – “an organisation dedicated to preserving memorial inscriptions from graveyards in Ireland, the Indian sub-continent, Sri Lanka and Jamaica.”
Guava Gardens – this is a wonderful site, run by George H Shepherd, who dedicates it “to people who have departed this world, hopefully, for a more peaceful place. So they have disappeared. Like, the 1857 burial ground at Banthara, on the Lucknow-Kanpur highway, that today has a housing colony for policemen. The plan is to collect pics of graves and put them here. Graves are disappearing; why only graves, even cemeteries?” The site contains photographs of contemporary graves as well. Sadly, there have been no new posts since 2020.

| 📗List of Christian Tombs and Monuments of Archaeological or Historical Interest and their Inscriptions in Charge of the P.W.D., United Provinces. 1912 | It also contains the cost of upkeep of certain tombs and whether the funds are provincial, governmental or private where relevant. The list contains a description of the tomb and the exact location. One tomb is noted, quite severely, as “not given in the budget.” There is also a plan of the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Agra & the cemetery at Partabgarh. Most likely, the list, as available on archive.org is incomplete. |

Hyderabad, Deccan: Published under the Authority of His Exalted Highness the Nizam’s Government, 1941. | There are references to men who fought in the mutiny, but not necessarily their graves. For example, in 1856, the wife of Captain Orr died in Aurangabad, and Mr Crofton thoughtfully attached a biography of her husband who was part of the Malwa Field Force with the Hyderabad Contingent. There are further references such as these and of course, it includes the death of Henry Mackworth Clogstoun, VC in 1862. There is also a description of the Shorapur Mutiny, the only one in the Nizam’s territories. |
